Congratulations to the March 8!

March 8 - International Women's Day! On this day, sound warm greetings better half of humanity! History began to celebrate this day, pretty interesting. It all started in the early spring of 1857, when textile workers in New York have been "March of empty pots" of Manhattan. They demanded higher wages, better working conditions and equal rights for women. This event even began to call Women's Day. It took more than 50 years and the last Sunday in February 1908 already thousands of women took to the streets again in New York. Demonstration of this, as you might guess, has been dated to the very "Women's Day" in 1857. Inspired by the actions of "American socialist sisters" Clara Zetkin proposed conference on the question of whether to women around the world have chosen a particular day when they will attract public attention to their requirements. The first International Women's Day was held March 19, 1911 in Germany, Austria, Denmark and some other European countries.

In the USSR, March 8 has long been a normal working day, but May 8 1965, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the International Women's Day on March 8 in the USSR was declared a public holiday.
